कावेरीबाई साधनाच्या सासूबाईंना विचारत होत्या. सासूबाईंना एरवी त्याचा काही फरक पडत नव्हता पण कावेरीबाई, म्हणजेच त्यांच्या मोठ्या बहीण असं बोलल्या आणि त्यांनाही कुठेतरी खटकायला लागलं.
कावेरीबाई म्हणजे अगदी कडक शिस्तीच्या. स्वतःच्या घरात सून मुलांना त्यांनी असं काही ताब्यात ठेवलं होतं की त्यांच्यासमोर कुणाचं काही चालत नसे.
कावेरीबाई आणि साधनाच्या सासूबाई, सख्ख्या बहिणी. कावेरीबाईंचं लग्न गावातच जवळच्या निमशहरी खेड्यात झालेलं आणि साधनाच्या सासूबाई मात्र मोठ्या शहरात वास्तव्यास आल्या होत्या. साहजिकच दोघींच्याही कौटुंबिक वातावरणात तफावत होती. कावेरीबाईंना मनाजोगतं स्वातंत्र्य मिळालं नव्हतं, एकत्र कुटुंब आणि दिवसभर राबणाऱ्या कावेरीबाईंना परिस्थितीने शिस्तबद्ध बनवलं होतं. हेच योग्य आहे असा समज करून आपल्या मुला सुनांकडून त्या हीच अपेक्षा ठेऊ लागलेल्या.
साधनाच्या सासूबाईंच्या घरी मात्र आधुनिक वातावरण होतं. त्यांना पुरेसं स्वातंत्र्य असल्याने बऱ्यापैकी हौसमौज त्यांची झाली होती. हीच सल कावेरीबाईंना कुठेतरी सलायची. मग स्वतःचं समाधान करून घेण्यासाठी बहिणीच्या घरातील उणीदुणी काढत असत.
साधना तर नवीनच लग्न करून घरात आलेली. साधना धाकटी सून. थोरल्या सुनेच आणि मुलाचं लग्न 3 वर्षांपूर्वीच झालेलं.
