क्रांतीच्या पार्लरवाऱ्या सुरू होत्या. अशीच एक अपॉइंटमेंट घेऊन ती लगबगीने निघाली.

“आई येते गं..”

ती निघाली पण काळाने घात केला, एका भरधाव ट्रकखाली तिची गाडी आली आणि ती जखमी झाली.

तिला दवाखान्यात नेलं, पटापट फोन फिरवत तिच्या घरच्यांना बोलावण्यात आलं. लग्नाची तारीख कॅन्सल झाली. जवळपास आठवडाभर ती ऍडमिट होती. शरीरावर जखमा झालेल्या,

तिचा होणारा नवरा तिला भेटायला यायचा, ती म्हणायची,

“हे बघ मी आत्ता बरी होईन, या जखमा पण बघ आता भरत आल्या आहेत..”

“हो पण याचे व्रण दिसतीलच ना, लग्नात कसं दिसेल ते”

त्याचं हे वाक्य ऐकून तिला वाईट वाटलं. तेवढ्यात डॉकटर आले.

“तुमच्या फॅमिली सोबत बोलायचं आहे, जरा केबिनमध्ये याल का?”

“मी तिचा होणारा नवरा..मी येतो”

केबिनमध्ये गेल्यावर डॉक्टरांनी त्याला सांगितलं,

“क्रांती यांना अपघातात जबरदस्त मार लागलाय , त्यांच्या पोटावर जबरदस्त आघात झाला असल्याने आम्ही सर्जरी केली, पण त्यामुळे त्या कधीच आई होऊ शकणार नाही.त्यांची आई होण्याची शक्यता फक्त 1% आहे”

“काय??”

तो तावातावाने उठला आणि निघून गेला. डॉक्टर क्रांतीकडे गेले..

“डॉक्टर? हा कुठे गेला?”

डॉक्टरांनाही वाईट वाटलं,

“कदाचित तो पुन्हा येणार नाही..”

“म्हणजे?”

“म्हणजे तू कधी आई होऊ शकत नाही, हे त्याला सांगितलं..”

क्रांतीवर आभाळ कोसळलं, एकीकडे आई होऊ शकणार नाही आणि दुसरीकडे तो सोडून गेला…तिचे आई वडील आले, त्यांनाही सगळं समजलं आणि सगळं चित्रच बदलून गेलं.

ती घरी आली. घरातलं वातावरण एकदम शांत होतं. कोणीच कोणाशी बोलत नव्हतं. शेजारी, मित्र, नातेवाईक लग्नाबद्दल विचारू लागले..पण काय उत्तर द्यावं त्यांना? क्रांतीच्या होणाऱ्या नवऱ्याला तिच्या वडिलांनी बरेच फोन लावले, पण त्याने तो घेतला नाही..यावरून त्यांना जे समजायचं ते समजलं..

दिवस सरत गेले तसं आई वडिलांना समाजात जायची लाज वाटू लागली. मुलीचं वय वाढत होतं आणि तिच्याशी कुणीही लग्न करणार नव्हतं. तसं पाहता यात तिची काहीही चूक नव्हती, आई वडिलांना तिचं वाईट वाटायचं पण दुसरीकडे पूर्ण आयुष्य त्यांना समाजात काढायचं होतं.

एके दिवशी सकाळी सकाळी वडिलांची चिडचिड सुरू झाली,
