राधिकाला काय बोलावे कळेना. पण हो म्हटल्याशिवाय पर्याय नव्हता.

साकेत आणि समीक्षा ट्रीपला निघून गेले. जाताना समीक्षाने राधिकाला घरातल्या सगळ्या वस्तू कुठे आहेत याची नीट माहिती दिली.

“कसं काय? डॉक्टरकडे जाऊया?”

“अगं नाही, रात्री होतंच असं..अंग आखडतं.. मग समीक्षाला हाक देते मी रोज रात्री..”

“रोज?”

“हो..”

राधिका डोळे चोळतच आईला आधार देऊन उठवू लागली..आईचं वजन बरंच होतं, तिची पाठच भरली गेली उठवता उठवता…तिला वाईटही वाटलं, आपण लग्नाआधी आईजवळ होतो तेव्हा आई किती धडधाकट होती. एकटी सगळी धावपळ करायची. वय होणं त्रासदायक आहे खरंच.

आई बाथरूमला जाऊन आली, “समीक्षा झोप जा आता..”

“राधिका गं आई..”

“समीक्षाच आलं बघ तोंडात”

राधिका झोपी गेली. सकाळी 6 वाजेपासूनच आईने हाक द्यायला सुरुवात केली. “राधिके, काढा आण गं माझा..”

आपण माहेरी असलो तरी आई बाबांसाठी आलोय याचा तिला विसरच पडायचा. ती अर्धवट झोपेत उठली आणि काढा करून दिला.

“नाष्टा लगेच बनव, चहा ठेव…”

“आत्ता 6 वाजता?”

“बाबांना डायबेटीस आहे ना गं, भूक लागते त्यांना भल्या पहाटे”

समीक्षाची झोप झाली नव्हती, तिच्या प्रचंड जीवावर आलेलं. तिने पटकन बनेल असा शिरा बनवला आणि वाढून आणला..

“अगं मी म्हटलं ना डायबेटीस आहे बाबांना, गोड व्यर्ज आहे..पण असुदेत, दमू नको आता, आजच्या दिवस खाऊन घेतील बाबा..”

समीक्षाने डोक्याला हात लावला. पटकन तयार होऊन घरातल्या कामांना लागली. आईला उठा बसायला त्रास होत असल्याने तिच्या खोलीत सगळा पसारा तसाच असे. तो आवरत आवरत ती दमली. मग झाडू, भांडी, कपडे एकेक कामं उरकली, झोप झालेली नसल्याने स्वयंपाक पटकन करून आणि जेवून दुपारी झोप काढू असं ठरवलं. तेवढ्यात आई म्हणाली,

“आज आमची दवाखान्यात अपॉइंटमेंट आहे, दुपारी 2 वाजता..”

“आज कशीकाय?”

“दर पंधरा दिवसांनी बोलवतात…जावं लागतं..पण आज जाऊदेत, तू दमली असशील..”
